Recklinghausen is a city in the Ruhr region, in the northwest of the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen. It is the only major city and at the same time the county seat of the most populous German county, the district of Recklinghausen, in the administrative district of Münster.
The greatest growth came from mining from 1869. This still shapes the region today. However, since the end of mining, Recklinghausen is primarily a service, shopping and administrative town and has a catchment area of around 600,000 people.
The beautiful city of Recklinghausen, in the heart of the Ruhr area, is known for theater and culture. But besides many events, there are also great parks, castles, as well as cafes and restaurants.
Culture and shopping are especially appealing in Recklinghausen. You will be drawn here if you love a stroll through the city center, but don't want to miss out on a mall, because Recklinghausen offers both. In addition, the city is also known for the Ruhr Festival!
